AllAfricaMatters!
As stated on the WELCOME page, this website is
based on the proposition that events, issues and concerns affecting
the African continent (a domain of over 50 independent states and
approximately 800 million people) SHOULD
MATTER to all humankind.
As an American citizen, I feel that my country owes much of its
success to citizens of African origin. I also believe that my country
(the US), which has proclaimed itself to be a "global leader,"
should be a prime mover in assisting African states to address more
effectively the needs of their citizens and successfully meet their
goals to become meaningful and equal partners in the international
economic and political community.
As you visit various sections of this website, hopefully you will
find useful information about what is happening in Africa today
as well as a better understanding of long-term issues of concern
to many African leaders. This website is not intended to be an exhaustive
source on Africa. It is an attempt to condense much information
about Africa into an understandable and intellectually consumable
format -- focusing on what I see as the major issues of the day
-- and the broader concerns and needs of the future.
Africa is not only the cradle of mankind -- it is a major melting
pot of races, cultures and traditions from all parts of our world
. As a continent it represents much of the world's remaining treasure
of human diversity and natural resources. To not see all of Africa
in its human and natural beauty and potential is to miss much of
the exciting modern story of mankind's experience on our planet.

IN THE NEWS
This section of the website focuses on current news about Africa
that I feel "should matter" to all of us. Some of the
news I highlight has received global attention. But most of the
events will be "new news" to most Americans -- as many
issues of concern to Africa have great difficulty gaining media
attention in the rest of the world. This is one small attempt to
address this "information gap problem" in regard to Africa!
While much news of importance will be not be covered, I hope that
you will find those events / issues addressed to be meaningful and
worthy of greater attention.
MAJOR
AFRICAN MATTERS
This section of the website will focus on the "larger picture"
-- major themes related to the long-term future of the African continent
and Africa's place in the global economic and political community.
While there are many themes from which to select, I will focus initially
on the following areas -- with possible future expansion:
(1) Building and sustaining inclusive, equitable, just and democratic
political cultures and systems in all regions of the African continent;
(2) Adopting and sustaining economic policies that will empower
African states and regions with infrastructures and resources capable
of responding to future domestic and international needs and opportunities
in an equitable manner;
(3) Building and sustaining a vibrant civil society in all regions
of Africa that can become an effective advocate of constructive
policies to address the basic human needs (health, education, employment,
housing, heritage) of all African peoples;
(4) Adopting and enforcing policies that will protect and sustain
Africa's natural environmental wealth, diversity and beauty for
future generations;
(5) Building and sustaining equitable political and economic relationships
between African states and the rest of the world.
ANYTHING
& EVERYTHING
As the title says -- this is the "catch-all" section of
the website that allows me to address "anything & everything"
that relates to Africa that catches my interest. And I have "lots
of interests" -- including music, film, literature, history,
religion, science, etc..... one of the real benefits of a liberal
arts, multi-disciplinary education! So check here often. Never know
what you will find!
PERSONAL
REFLECTIONS
Speaking of "editorial comments" -- this is the section
of AllAfricaMatters for which you have been anxiously
awaiting! Yes -- I do have my own opinions -- and I offer them "unedited"
in this section of the website. Hopefully, this section will be
tied soon to a "blog page" so that you can respond to
my ramblings. This section will expand in the future -- so visit
often to see what wild observations I am making!
